hana!!!

thanks to my dearest friend Ileta, her Chris and I were able to spend a weekend away at the Hana Hotel :) There was basketball, yatzee, spa, hot-tub, pool, campfire under the moon, drinks, delicious food, the beach, chris' ghetto board shorts and tons and tons of laughter and good memories.

easter with our Maui Family just a few days before flying to our new home in San Diego. We had Delicious food, decorated cupcakes, watched the boys play ball, girls chatting, boys gambling with pennies :), the raw/boiled egg game (boys got the raw, we got hard boiled, rigged? I don't know?!?! :) ) , kais surprise gift of a massive travel jont winter 2011 and just Family :)

a dear friend made in a very hard place of work. we were there for each other and brought out the sun in that dark dark place. My Argentinian amiga. Te Quiero Mucho Amiga. This was our last little date, crashing the pool we would have lost our jobs over :) MUAHAHAHAH!!!

Wow, where has the time gone.....last time I was on here I was all ambitious and stuff saying I was going to do the last thirty days in maui in photos and favs....opps. hah. So we have been SOOO busy with everything that consists of moving off an island and I have missed "my time" doing this. We have been working our little bums off but have made time to savor the island this last week. Here are our "Breaks" in phone photos. Enjoy!!! (Can you believe it?!?! 2 1/2 years ago we came here with 4 suitcases not knowing .....for adventure...now we have been here that long, gained life-long friends and family, shipping 5 suitcases and sent 12 boxes and bringing home 2 cats!!! Craaaazy! An Adventure I'll Say!!)

So we have made time to enjoy life out here amidst the hectic long list of "to-dos" this last week, although we will miss this ocean terribly, and the ones out here we love, we can't wait for this new step in our lives. Scary and exciting and new and just another adventure in the life of Chris and Katherine Evans. I can't wait to board that plane tomorrow. Thank you beautiful Island of Maui for taking us in. Praise be to God for this opportunity. Praise him for our strengthened marriage and friendship through it. Praise him for our two blessings - tigger and patrick. Praise him for The Bookland Clan, Ileta and Sofia and many others who made this place for us and taught us so much. Ocean I will miss your warmth, clarity, vibrant colors and your beauty. We will see you once again :) Some happy day!!! But for now....helllllooo San DIego!!! The Evans are in town!!!

three years with my best friend!!

starting with breakfast at "The Plantation House"

ahhh what an amazing morning! Chris and I began with gifties and then headed to breakfast. The service was incredible, the coffee was delicious, the food AMMMAzing, the view breath-taking and the company precious. We were in no hurry nor were we rushed. They gave us a free dessert since it was our anniversary :) Chris and I just had a blessed time sitting there not always talking, just enjoying another year together, watching the happenings of the course and discussing moving what-nots. We then left to go the beach for the bulk of the day. Chris has this conviction of crashing pools/hot-tubs. I however do not....i always ask him if he wants to even though i know the answer. Today Chris asked me if he wants to crash our favorite hot-tub :) AHHH!!! YAY! I was like a giddy school girl.....and he sooorta went in the ocean with me (he was kinda a weeny with the "Chilly" water but I loved it :) ) With enough time to shower off the salt water we went to the harbor for our sunset sail. Ahh. America 2 never gets old to us. We went when Bill was sailing...he caught a TUna on the trip!! So exciting! The sunset was gorgeous and I was just silent enjoying this island tucked under my husbands arms. We came home and basically fell asleep after how busy we have been and what a long day it was. but glorious. I can't believe the adventures we have had in three years time! I look forward to having millions more. I have known many people this year hurting in their relationships....I hurt because they hurt. It's raised many doubts and questions which are not of the Lord. I can no longer take us for granted. We are truly blessed and love each-other very much. So grateful to have grown even closer together after being just us for 2.5 years rather than apart. I am so excited for San Diego. I am excited to make friends, mainly to see Chris make friends. To do things we love. To make babies and all those wonderful things. Praise the Lord for every day. Praise the Lord for my Husband and Praise the Lord we have one-another.

What is your favorite bookstore in Maui?

Old Lahaina Book Emporium, HANDSDOWN! Ahh, I love this place. It starts out fun with a vibrant Lime Green and Costal Blue front even before you enter! When we first moved here I instantly feel in love. The workers are crabby old women who have a discombobulated sense of organization, which makes the dainty shop so unique. Classical music is constantly playing and it's generally cool after being out in the sun. There is everything from hardback to paperback, brand spankin new to ancient classic old books (my favorite!). The smell is that of used books, not quite mildew (hah) but you know, such a wonderful aroma of aged ink on paper. There are shelves of antiques for sale spread throughout the store, completely random just like the shop. The Isles are narrow, you literally can't even bend forward if you wanted to. The shelves are jam-packed which makes it difficult to take them out to look at and put back, but that means there are SEVeral options for reading. I adore this little old place and will miss it dearly. I hope, if you are ever in Lahaina Town, that you will stop at the Old Lahaina Book Emporium, never know what treasure you will find :)

What is your favorite Hawaiian Flower?

I personally love the Tuberose. It's a lovely white flower, extremely deliciously fragrant often recognized in the purple and white leis around tourists necks. (Orchid and Tuberose.) Ahh, I love them. You always smell tuberose before you see it. The common flowers loved by locals are plumerias (in the image above), hibiscus, ginger and bird of paradise, 

but my PERSOnal favorite is the Tuberose :)

What is the BESt place to watch a sunset in Maui?!? 

HALEAKALA CRATER

Today my husband and I went to Haleakala for a hike! I thought we were just going to go there and walk around...(I'm generally anti-hike..) but NOPE!! Haha. We started a trail not knowing what we were getting ourselves into. It was a breeze walking downhill for 1hr and 15min. The crater was beautiful. SO incredible, colors of orange, red and yellow. Then we started the hike UPhill for ONE HOUR and 30MINUTES....hah. Ok. So i'm not in shape, and we were at 10,000 ft elevation so YES it was supposed to be hard, but MAN it was HARD! My face is brighter than a strawberry, my body probably doesn't ache HAlf as bad as it will tomorrow and the next day and I have blisters on both heels. Ok but WOW. What a beautiful hike. SUCH a different perspective of Maui. Not HALF as amazing and breath-taking as watching the sunset, and after 90minutes of uphill and thats saying something!! 

Last 30 Days in Maui...

I was suggested by a VERY dear friend of mine to do a countdown before I leave. So I will post each day (or do my best) for the 30 days we have left here. I will have an image, hopefully, of the "Favorite" thing I discuss about Maui on the particular day, if not - it will be another image I took that very day to savor the beauty of the island. 30 Days of Photos...30 Days of FAVS! So excited, this is a GREAT way to leave, by focusing on the wonderful things that brought us here in the first place.

Ok, so I chose this question because I hit the JACKpot today finding some MASSive sea-glass and some large broken, but still beautifully unique shells :) This always makes me very happy, and is one of my favorite things to do in Maui. There is such a peace about it. Your toes are in a sand spa, your hair is being blown by the refreshing wind to counter the blazing glorious sunshine beaming down on your neck. Everyone around you is relaxing or you are alone and in a complete peaceful state of mind with the world at the moment. Thinking about nothing but the fond childhood memories picking agates with your family. The knowledge that if you just look a little harder, and wait, scanning the grounds patiently you just might find the winning treasure. The piece that would make you the BEST treasure hunter of them all. Finding beauties no one would because they are in the palm of your hand. It sounds like satisfaction in power, being the best, winning. In a way it is. Mostly it's just a BEAUtiful reminder of the blessed time you had and the wonderful memories you've made. Lovely items that you can turn around and make even lovelier turing it into a gift or a piece of jewelry to hang over your heart. They are precious things. I don't need much, I'm not a materialistic person. Memories, natural treasures that mark those memories, now those are worth more than a channel bag to me. That's MY kind of obsession :)
